This in-person group is facilitated by Johnnie Geathers, LSW on Tuesdays from 6-7:30pm at our Penn Hills office: 10 Duff Road Suite 201, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.

Each group cohort lasts 8-10 weeks and is limited to 8 participants. An individual therapist is recommended but NOT required to participate.

Insurances accepted include Highmark, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United, UPMC Commercial and Medicaid. Self-pay is also an option and is $40 per group plus an intake as needed.

Teen Group Intake Process:

Thanks for your interest in joining our teen therapy group! Please fill out our new client inquiry form and select Group as the type of therapy requested.

If your teen already has an individual therapist, please also have them fill out our group referral form. After you have been referred, we will process your information and our administrative assistant will contact you directly to get you set up in our system and schedule your teen for a 30 minute orientation.

If your teen does not have an individual therapist, we will still need to acquire intake information in order to create a treatment plan and a working diagnosis for insurance purposes. The therapist facilitating your teen's group will do a one hour intake and orientation with them. Self-pay for an intake is $150 or we can provide a mental health evaluation form to be completed by a therapist at a practice that is in network for your insurance.

After the orientation and intake, your teen is ready to begin their transformation journey.

Life groups are currently paused, but there is still opportunity to learn and utilize DBT Skills on an individual basis through the DBT Skills Theraputic Experience. A therapist is required for all DBT participants.

DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) focuses on four main components which our group learns in three modules. These modules are Mindfulness and Emotion Regulation, Mindfulness and Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Mindfulness and Distress Tolerance.

Mindfulness and Emotion Regulation is particularly good for people who struggle with emotional dysregulation, emotional numbing or emotional impulsivity, such as anger management).

Mindfulness and Interpersonal Effectiveness is excellent for people struggling with or having anxiety about communication with others or people who have negative self-talk.

Mindfulness and Distress Tolerance is a great unit for people who need to manage a crisis and tend to use unhealthy coping mechanisms. This is also a good module for people who need to work on accepting things they can't change that are causing them to suffer, such as grief.

DBT Skills Theraputic Experience is facilitated by Dana Warren, LCSW. She is able to accept Highmark, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Medicaid (CCBH, UPMC For You), UPMC, PA Medicare, UPMC For Life, United, or self-pay.

L.I.F.E. Group Testimonial:

"I wanted to take a minute to share my thoughts and feelings on how Dana Warren’s DBT Skills group has impacted me and my family in a positive and life affirming way.

Last night I sat in the middle of my bed crying as I realized the work I have done and the difference I’ll be making as a result: family, legacy, world-changer. I went through a “season” in my life where my negative self talk, doubt in my ability to trust my decisions and mountains of FEAR began to dramatically impact how I functioned in my daily living. I turned to isolation and that only enabled those negative thoughts to get even louder. I was working so hard to “fix myself” and finally realized that I needed to do something different.

I did a lot of research and was even involved in several other programs, which I completed. I’d like to think they prepared me so that when I got in Dana Warren’s group, I WAS READY for it!. I can’t say enough good things about her leadership, compassion, effectiveness and motivation. She has been cheering for each of us and helps us ensure that we learn how to navigate life’s up and down without getting “seasick”.

It’s the weekly education coupled with practicing new skills, being held accountable and feeling supported that have provided the avenue to real and sustainable change in my life. I’m a better person, I love my new career, I’m renewed and feel more effectice as a parent and friend. I’ve become comfortable “showing up as myself”, I’m able to acknowledge how I actually feel, without fear of being consumed by those feelings. I’ve been challenged to remember the importance of having a little FUN everyday and how to care for my needs, set goals and accomplish them.

I highly recommend this group if you have been trying to feel better about how to live a more positive life."
